There comes a point in the life of every laptop computer when the battery simply does not measure up the way that it used to. When this happens it may be time to purchase a replacement battery in order to bring some of the usability back to your computer in order to return it to its former glory. Battery technology has improved steadily over the last few years and there are several different options to choose from when it comes to finding the battery with the longest life. How long a laptop can operate on battery power between charges depends entirely on the design of the battery.
Nickel cadmium batteries are some of the first rechargeable batteries to hit the market. These types of batteries have been used in everything from remote control cars to laptop computers. These types of batteries could easily handle a demanding load and were quick to take a charge, but the chemicals used within them were extremely toxic. Nickel cadmium batteries have been more or less replaced by a nickel metal hydride batteries. These batteries contain much less harmful chemicals but have a shorter lifespan than their predecessors. These batteries are also much maligned because of their tendency to develop a memory.
