Nickel cadmium batteries are some of the first rechargeable batteries to hit the market. These types of batteries have been used in everything from remote control cars to laptop computers. These types of batteries could easily handle a demanding load and were quick to take a charge, but the chemicals used within them were extremely toxic. Nickel cadmium batteries have been more or less replaced by a nickel metal hydride batteries. These batteries contain much less harmful chemicals but have a shorter lifespan than their predecessors.
